Why Intern with Schwartz Farms?
Our internship program is designed to immerse students in the pork production industry, offering a comprehensive look at modern swine operations and agricultural business. Interns gain valuable, real-world experience and explore various roles across our company.
Internship Highlights:

Hands-on experience across the full production system:
Breeding, gestation, farrowing, gilt development, nurseries, and finishers -
Focus on a specific area of production based on your interests

Tours of our research barn, feed mill, and processing facility (when available)

Shadow veterinarians, site managers, and key team leaders

Opportunity to lead or contribute to independent research projects

Participate in management and production meetings

Receive feedback and mentorship from experienced supervisors

Internship Schedule
- The intent of the schedule is to demonstrate the timeline for each area of production. The internship schedule is flexible based on each student’s availability, area of interest, project requirements, and Schwartz Farms’ production.
- Schwartz Farms will make every effort to accommodate individual interests in specific aspects of production.
Compensation & Benefits

Housing provided if needed

Mileage reimbursement for any work-related travel beyond your normal commute, at the current IRS mileage rate


Intern Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the internship program, candidates must:

Be eligible to work in the U.S. and provide appropriate identification
-
Adhere to all policies outlined in the SFI Employee Handbook
-
Maintain strict biosecurity—interns may not work with or live with anyone involved in another swine operation during the internship
-
Have reliable transportation
-
Be pursuing a degree in swine science, animal science, or a related field
-
Ideally be in their junior or senior year of college
-
Be seeking a career in the pork industry or a related agricultural profession
-
Internships are based in Sleepy Eye, MN and Leigh, NE
